In yoga philosophy, Santosha means contentment—the practice of finding peace and appreciation in the moment we are already living. Not because everything is perfect, but because we remember how to soften, savor, and receive what is here.

This retreat is an invitation to experience Santosha through long summer days, fresh mountain air, daily yoga, nourishing meals, meaningful connection, and the simple pleasures of a Maine summer.

This is more than a yoga retreat.
It is a return to nature, to ease, and to the joy of enough.

a summer camp for grownups…

There is something special about summer in Maine.

The days stretch a little longer. Meals linger a little later.

Time spent outdoors feels less like an activity and more like a way of life.

For five days, we'll gather in the mountains of western Maine to practice yoga, explore nature, enjoy incredible food, and embrace a slower rhythm.

Whether you spend your afternoons hiking, swimming, kayaking, reading on the porch, or relaxing by the fire pit, this retreat offers the space to reconnect with yourself and enjoy the beauty of the season.

Your Sanctuary - Santosha at Hillholm Estate

Nestled in the mountains of western Maine, Santosha at Hillholm Estate is a beautifully restored historic property located in Kingfield, a town known for outdoor adventure, natural beauty, and small-town New England charm.

Tucked away in the wild Maine woods alongside the rushing Carrabassett River, you'll find a Gilded Age mansion built in 1895, where you can dig deep to rest, rejuvenate, and practice contentment.

The estate combines historic character with modern comfort, offering inviting gathering spaces, comfortable accommodations, a sauna, outdoor fire pit, and plenty of places to relax between adventures.

The property is also home to two friendly resident dogs, and select accommodations are dog-friendly for guests who wish to bring their own canine companions.

Santosha at Hillholm Estate invites you warmly into this place of peace, to carve calm space from the chaotic world outside, to cease churning. You are invitedy to rest, to breathe, to cultivate gratitude. We invite you to reflect:

This, all I have and everything I am, is enough.

Nourishment

Food and joy are intimately connected at Santosha. They strive to craft a culinary experience in mindfulness for you: slow down to savor every last bite.

They emphasize seasonal, local ingredients from small Maine growers. Meals are meant to be shared. Everything is served family-style, around solid hardwood tables.

Menus lean heavily toward plant-based recipes to respect our environmental stewardship obligations and remain mindful of the ethics of eating meat, fowl, and fish. The meals reflect the chefs’ extensive travels across the globe and varied ethnic backgrounds, ranging from Swedish treats to Israeli comfort food.

Four menus are offered daily : the Omnivore Menu, the Pescatarian Menu, the Vegetarian Menu, and the Vegan Menu.

The last night together will be a traditional Maine Lobster feast. Santosha also has a bar that offers mocktails, cocktails, beer and wine (not included in the retreat price).

Daily Yoga & Wellness

Each day begins with a dynamic vinyasa practice—designed to awaken the body, build heat, and connect you to your breath. Afternoons offer a softer landing, with restorative movement, meditation, and space for reflection—inviting you to slow down and integrate.

Classes are thoughtfully sequenced and guided with clear, intentional language, creating space for you to tune into your own inner teacher.Open to all levels, with options and variations offered throughout. Not recommended to true beginners, but those with at least six months of vinyasa practice in their bodies.

Additional wellness activities include meditation, yoga nidra, sound healings, journaling and more.
